I don’t want to smell like everyone else

Atelier des fleurs chloé perfume bottle

I have always thought perfume was one of the most personal things you can buy.

You can forget what someone was wearing. You can forget what their handbag looked like. You can even forget exactly what they said.

But sometimes you remember how they smelled.

And I love that about fragrance.

For me, choosing a perfume isn’t really about finding the most expensive bottle or the fragrance everyone is talking about. It’s about finding the one that feels right when it’s on my skin.

Because a perfume can smell completely different on someone else.perfume, cosmetics, women, perfume, perfume, perfume, perfume, perfume

THE ONE I KEEP REACHING FOR

There are perfumes I admire and perfumes I actually want to wear.

Those are not always the same thing.

I’ve bought the beautiful bottle. I’ve loved the notes on paper. I’ve sprayed something in a store and thought, this is gorgeous.

Then I’ve worn it for an hour and realised…

It’s not me.

And I think that’s one of the best things about perfume. You’re allowed to change your mind.

You can love a fragrance without wanting to live in it.

I DON’T THINK YOU NEED A SIGNATURE SCENT

For a long time, I thought I was supposed to find the one.

One perfume that became your identity.

But I’m not sure I believe that anymore.

I want different things from fragrance depending on the day.

Sometimes I want something soft and feminine.

Sometimes I want something clean and effortless.

Sometimes I want something warm and sensual.

And sometimes I want to walk into a room and make people wonder what smells so good.

Why should it be just one?

PERFUME CHANGES WITH YOU

The same perfume can feel completely different depending on who you’re with, where you’re going and even what you’re wearing.

A fresh fragrance with jeans and a white shirt.

Something warmer for dinner.

Something soft when you’re staying home.

Something a little more dramatic when you want to feel like that woman.

Maybe that is why perfume can become so emotional.

We’re not just choosing a scent.

We’re choosing how we want to feel.

I’ve become much less interested in asking whether a perfume is “good.”

The better question is:

Do I like myself in this?

Does it make me feel confident?

Beautiful?

Comfortable?

Sexy?

A little mysterious?

Because that’s what makes a perfume worth keeping.

Not how many compliments it gets.

Not whether it’s trending.

Not whether someone else loves it.

Whether you love wearing it.

THE HER FAVORITES PERFUME EDIT

These are the perfumes I’d want sitting on my own dressing table — the beautiful bottles, the everyday favourites, the ones for special evenings and the ones you keep reaching for without even thinking about it.

Some are soft. Some are bold. Some are sweet. Some are clean.

But every fragrance has one thing in common:

It should feel like you.

If you calmly and consistently respond to your baby’s calls for attention by sorting out what they need or just by being there, your baby quickly learns to trust that you’ll fulfil their needs.
